Educational Use

  • Use of the instruments in the Core Facilities for education of Drexel students (classes, labs, demos, etc.) is provided at a staff assisted rate of $85/h OR can be done by a trained and/or subscribed internal user at $35/h. A student that currently uses the particular instrument is preferred. An Access Form must be downloaded here , filled in and signed by the course instructor and the user who will perform the work.
  • Course instructors are kindly requested to contact respective Core Facilities managers well in advance to work out the details of the labs and/or staff assistance in order to ensure that all envisaged experiments/demos can be performed to their satisfaction. Core Facilities equipment cannot be made available for the class until these details have been worked out.

Training and Staff Assistance

Work on all Core Facilities instruments can be done after completion of an appropriate training course. The training duration depends on the complexity of the instrument and on the previous experience of the trainee and is determined by the Core Facilities manager responsible for the instrument.

Core Facilities managers will determine if a refreshment training session is needed for users with prepaid subscriptions who have been trained to use Core Facilities instruments, but haven't used them for more than 6 months.

Only staff members can train new users. Training of new users by already trained users is not allowed.

Newly trained users will need to schedule their work initially only in working hours in order to get help from staff members, if needed.

Using the instruments 24/7 will be allowed after a certain period of unassisted work at the discretion of the respective managers.

Core Facilities Card and Labs Access

Internal (Drexel) users have 24/7 access with their Drexel cards to the Core Facilities (Bossone 106) and/or the Micro Fabrication Facility (LeBow 334).

Subscribed internal users only: Please apply for card access to the respective managers after completion of training by emailing them the following details:

  • Name
  • Department
  • Adviser
  • Drexel ID# (this is your ID# in Drexel One, not the number at the back of your card.)

Access will be granted in 1-2 business days.

Core Facilities staff is not responsible for granting access to any other labs except 106 Bossone and 334 LeBow. If your card is not opening other labs and/or entrance doors please contact your faculty advisor.

External Academic users can access the Core Facilities labs only during working hours, Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm. Exceptions can be made only if a staff member agrees to be present and opens the labs for the external user after working hours or on weekends and/or holidays.

Industry researchers can be in the Core Facilities labs only accompanied by the staff member who is performing the work on their samples.

Door push button codes

The doors of the labs in Core Facilities (106 Bossone) labs have push button codes. Please contact the respective manager after completion of training to learn the code of the labs you are authorized to use.
